Best known as an inaugural member of the group The Four Bitchin’ Babes, Megon delights audiences with her mixture of heartfelt and humorous songs and she has 15 solo albums to her credit. Megon McDonough is a nationally known singer-songwriter who has been performing around the country for more than four decades and has performed on stages as varied as Carnegie Hall, The Birchmere, The Wolf Trap and more. In 2014, he was the featured instructor at Hong Kong Story Worthy Week, headlined by David Sedaris. Scott teaches a perpetually sold out monthly class, and trains corporations, non-profits, and individuals to find their voices. He tells stories anywhere someone will listen, which has included Steppenwolf Theater, The National Storytelling Festival’s Exchange Place, and on NPR and The Risk Podcast. He is host of This Much Is True, the city’s longest running monthly storytelling series, creator of Story Lab Chicago, recently mentioned in Forbes and Newsweek, which has put 600+ new and first time tellers on stage since 2011, and director of Do Not Submit, a citywide network of open mics with the goal of creating empathy among neighbors. Evaluation efforts of the webpage are ongoing to understand how these digital stories are being used to inform maternal health efforts. In September 2021, a webpage was launched to house the stories, and this resource is being shared widely. The storytellers own their digital stories and provided consent to include them in ongoing dissemination efforts. Both instances were conducted virtually and included group and individual skills-based sessions where storytellers learned to create and edit their digital stories. Two groups participated in this project, one in 2021 and another in 2022, culminating with 10 digital stories. We screened interested individuals using a trauma-informed approach and a social worker provided storytellers with support during the project. We relied on partners to help recruit storytellers with a self-identified perinatal-related challenge. The project aimed to elevate voices (stories) to complement other sources of data on maternal outcomes. This article describes the Illinois Maternal Health Digital Storytelling Project conducted by the University of Illinois at Chicago, in partnership with Stor圜enter, a storytelling nonprofit organization based in Berkeley, California. However, most efforts fail to center women's voices and personal perspectives about pregnancy experiences and complications.
